Canal-side guest harbours

There are many guest harbors in the lakes along the Göta canal, both Lake Vättern and Lake Vänern are lined with cozy resorts and lively harbors to dock in. There is lots to see and experience for those of you who travel the Göta Canal, but want to take a break from the canal life to stretch out on more open water.

By Lake Vättern there are Vadstena, Askersund and Hjo within easy reach of the canal ports of Karlsborg and Motala. If you want to make longer trips, there are both Visingsö and Jönköping in the southern part of the lake.

In Lake Vänern, you don't have far to Mariestad or Otterbäcken in Gullspång when you leave Göta Canal in Sjötorp. If you are going down towards Gothenburg, you will pass both Lidköping and Vänersborg on the way to Trollhätte Canal. However, the latter are well worth a visit even for those who turn around in Lake Vänern and go back on the Göta Canal again.

Mini trip Motala - Borensberg

The ticket includes a round trip journey between Motala and Borensberg, as well as three overnight stays in one of the guest harbours. Take the time to enjoy Motala, one of the largest harbours on the canal, the historical environment surrounding the old Motala Workshop, and the idyllic Borensberg. Along the way, you will pass the Göta Canal's steepest flight of locks, with 5 locks, in Borenshult.
