Lush greenery and fascinating history
Take the train to Töreboda and cycle eastwards. This tour blends open landscapes with lush greenery and exciting historical sites.
Travelling by train is the most sustainable way to reach your cycling holiday along the Göta Canal. Töreboda is easy to reach from all over Sweden, and bicycles can be rented from Café Visthuset or Sustainable Stella.
Once you've collected your bicycles, head eastwards and your first stop is the ferry Lina, Europe’s smallest ferry, which will take you to the other side of the canal. Along the way, there are several nice rest areas where you can stop for a snack, or you might prefer to stop at Jonsboda Café & Camping and enjoy their delicious treats.
Cosy overnight stay in Tåtorp
We suggest making your first stop for the night in Tåtorp. You can stay at the hostel, with the option to cook your own dinner in the shared kitchen. If you prefer a restaurant meal, there’s a place at Vassbacken, just a couple of kilometres before you reach Tåtorp, so it’s not much of a detour if you would like to cycle there and back.
You’ve now completed section 2 of the Göta Canal trail and cycled 15.5 km. From here, you can either cycle back to Töreboda or continue to section 3, which is 57 km and leads to Forsvik and Karlsborg.
