Mem is the gate to Göta Canal from the Baltic. The Canal adventure starts here, and the boat traveller meet their first lock on the Canal trip. This is where Göta Canal was inagurated in 1832, by the King Karl XIV Johan. The beautiful harbour warehouse is preserved and restored and holds today a café and hostel.

Visit the Canal office, before entrance in the lock, to get an information kit along with your pre-paid canal ticket, or to pay by Visa or MasterCard (possible during peak season only). You can also buy canal literature and other souvenires. Please note that there is only a simple waiting dock without service facilities outside the Mem Lock.
