Rest stop with wind shelter by the Ruda bridge

The rest stop at Ruda bridge is found in a cosy location, inside a small grove on the north side of the canal. There is both a fire pit and a wind shelter here, making it a good stop on the road no matter what time of year you are visiting.

Right next to it, on the other side of the ferry, is one of the Göta Canal company's sheep pens with pasture for the canal sheep. They tend to be an exciting feature, not least for the youngest visitors.

Nearby is also one of the canal's draining hatches. These are mainly used to empty the canal of water during maintenance work and repairs. When this is done, the regulating gates that are found at various places along the canal are also used, to avoid having to empty the entire canal of water, and limit the emptying to a shorter section.
