Charming small-town idyll from the Middle Ages

Söderköping

Söderköping is a picturesque and medieval small town surrounded by countryside, nature and the Sankt Anna archipelago. The city was for a long time an important port for Baltic Sea traffic, together with Visby and Kalmar. Several churches and a monastery were also built here in the 13th century, during a time when the Catholic Church had great power over the population.

Söderköping is also known for being the filming location for Swedish child movie Madicken, the Göta Canal movies and the German series Inga Lindström. Here there are several options when it comes to activities with everything from cycling and climbing trails to history walks and archipelago cruises.
