This section takes you from Tåtorp at Lake Viken to Karlsborg at Lake Vättern. Here you leave the gravel towpath and cycle on smaller country roads through a picturesque countryside.

The third section of the Göta Canal Trail begins at Tåtorp bridge. From there you cycle on smaller country roads on the south side of Lake Viken. The landscape is varied and picturesque, and you will pass the round church in Beateberg, among other things. When you've rounded Lake Viken, you'll arrive at one of the Göta Canal's true gems - the canal community of Forsvik. Here you will find the oldest lock on the Göta Canal as well as the Forsvik mill. There are also hostels, restaurants and cafes.

To avoid the busier road 201, you then take the road around the Flugebyn parachuting practice field before reaching Karlsborg from the north. In addition to the well-known landmark Karlsborg Fortress, all imaginable amenities are available here. Down by the lively canal harbour there are hotels, restaurants, cafes, tourist information and mini golf. The canal harbour is also the summer starting point for crossing Lake Vättern and continuing towards Motala, by loading the bicycle onto the M/Y Modig.
