Wassbacken Café, Camping and Youth hostel


A scenic spot by the Göta Kanal

Wassbacken is located in a scenic spot, by the Göta Canal. It has a guest harbour, campground, cabins and hostel.
The reception is in the café, which also has a small range of food and other goods.
The café serves simple meals and it also manages the rental of canoes and bicycles.
There is minigolf on the grounds.

Wassbacken offers bicycle packages and crayfish catching packages.

The Posthuset building is a little log cabin that in 1830 was fitted with bars and made into a post office, with the lock-keeper as the postmaster.

Not far from Wassbacken you will find the highest point, "Lanthöjden" through which the canal was dug- 91.5 m above sea level! The point is marked by a tall obelisk. Therre is a grill pit here and a wood-burning sauna for canal guests. The Göta Canal is one of Sweden's best known and most poular touristattractions. The canal was built between 1810 and 1832. Costruction was initiated and headed by Baltzar von Platen. The Göta Canal stretches between Sjötorp on Lake Vänern and Mem at the Baltic, with 58 locks along the way.
