The ferry Lina, Töreboda

Töreboda

The ferry Lina is the smallest regular ferry in Sweden. Lina traffics across the Göta canal tying together the easern and western half of Töreboda for pedestrians and cyclists. The short passage only takes 20 - 25 seconds!

The ferry is manually pulled over the canal with a rope that is led though the ferry. If you like, you can try this yourself. If a boat wants to pass by the ferry, the rope is lowered to the bottom of the canal and pulled back up as soon as the boat has passed by.

During the winter season a little bridge replaces the ferry.

Facts

This unique ferry line was first started in 1919 by the retired engine driver Oskar Lindhult. In the beginning a gondola was used for the passage. In the end of the 1930s the skipper Färje-Karl got permission to strech a rope over the canal. After that a special ferry could be build and be put into service.
