Carl Johan flight of locks, Göta Canal

The lockkeeper´s house was built around 1815 and many lockkeepers have lived here over the years. Originally, the house contained apartments for two guards. About 100 meters south of the locks lies the former inspector's residence.


Formal name: Carl Johan (King Carl XIV Johan. The King and his son Prince Oscar visited the building site in 1815 and laid down two pillars, why the locks got his name).

Built: 1815-1818

Technical facts: These seven connected locks are the longest slot of the channel. It lifts or lowers the boats 18.8 meters between Roxen and Berg's guest harbor.
