Flygvapenmuseum – the Swedish Air Force Museum in Linköping
Linköping
The Swedish Air Force Museum, Flygvapenmuseum, in Linköping is a cultural history museum with award-winning exhibits on Swedish military aviation development.
At Flygvapenmuseum you will find a unique collection of aircrafts from the early pioneers to today's JAS 39 Gripen. We also have a museum shop, restaurant, café, conference facilities, knowledge centre with library and archives as well as science center with experimental stations and flight simulators.
The crown jewel of the Air Force Museum's collections is the wreck of the Swedish DC-3 that was shot down by a Soviet fire fighter over the Baltic Sea in 1952. The wreckage was found more than fifty years later, was salvaged and put to its final resting place at the museum. The exhibition Acts of Secrecy – DC-3 that disappeared received the award Exhibition of the Year 2010.
The exhibition Expecting the worst – Sweden during the Cold War tells of the cold war and how it affected Sweden, its policy and citizens. Be nostalgic in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s interiors and see how the Folkesson family lived during the ongoing threat from the east.
Children and family
Flygvapenmuseum is a place for both children and adults. There is something for everyone!
In Flight Lab, the museum's science center, children and adults, regardless of previous experience, can learn more about flight in the exciting experimental stations. Build an airplane, test how it is to stand in the middle of a storm or fly a JAS 39 Gripen fire fighter in our simulator. Like flying for real. You can also explore the museum together with the mascots Drakel and Viggo. What will they find, among all the aircrafts and weird gadgets?
Flygvapenmuseum was awarded Museum of the Year 2011.
