The history of the Göta Canal
The Göta Canal is one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken in Sweden. The canal stretches from Sjötorp on Lake Vänern to Mem, Slätbaken, is 190 kilometres in length and contains 58 locks.
The canal founder
Baltzar von Platen is the man with the iron will who succeeded in seeing this gigantic canal construction project through to its completion.
