Two-day Göta Canal bike package, including accommodation (68 km)

Experience a lovely cycling holiday over two days. The bike ride follows the car-free gravel towpath, passing many locks and boats from all over the world. This is a cycling adventure that suits young and old.

Day 1 (38 kilometres)

The bike ride begins in Sjötorp, where you will get some help to set the bike up to suit you perfectly. You will be given a lovely lunch package from the local fishmonger before you set off.

The cycling is easy and will take you past many locks during the day. There are numerous cafés along the canal that offer a chance to stop for a rest.

In the afternoon, after 30 kilometres of cycling, you will reach Wassbacken, which is the end station of the day. Here, you will check in to your accommodation. A nice meal will also be served at the hotel.

We suggest undertaking an extra little ride along the canal, to Tåtorp, where the canal enters Lake Viken, before turning back to Wassbacken (8 kilometres).

Day 2 (30 kilometres)

After a filling breakfast, you will leave Wassbacken behind and head for Sjötorp. During the day, you can stop at any spots you may have missed or passed by the previous day. In Sjötorp, the bikes are returned and the experience ends with a lovely lunch at Restaurant Kajutan, which is situated right by the locks and the canal bridge in Sjötorp.

History of the Göta Canal

The Göta Canal is one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken in Sweden. The canal stretches from Sjötorp by Lake Vänern to Mem by Slätbaken, is 190 kilometres long and has 58 locks. Some 87 kilometres of this stretch is excavated canal. The smaller lakes you pass on the way make up 103 km of the canal's length.
