Norsholm Lock

Motala, Norrköping

Built: 1826.
The rise is 0.8 metre at normal water level in Lake Roxen.
The Norsholm Lock has mooring hooks in the lock wall and fixed lines to hold onto.

This means that all are still on board during locking.

Formal name: Biskop Brask/Bishop Brask (named after the bishop who first proposed the idea of a canal through Sweden).

History of the lock

The part of the canal which lies outside the lower lock gates was originally too narrow. Large boats found it difficult to navigate this section, which was widened during the winter of 1890-91.
